Just as surely as if you had been fitted with an electronic wrist or ankle bracelet, carrying around a cellphone on your person renders you as trackable by the State as if you were a convicted offender. But your loss of privacy from today's must-have gadget is not limited to Big Brother - you are now an equal-opportunity target for market-savvy businesses, suspicious lovers and even unknown stalkers. Indeed, the price of staying connected at all times goes way beyond the billing for your payment-plan (and still unacknowledged health issues arising from chronic low-level radiation exposure) to sharing details of your movements and private conversations with a growing number of unseen ears who do not always have your best interests in mind. Oppressive regimes have quickly adopted this new tool.
As the timely article below reveals, simply switching off your phone will not keep the 'noses' of these control-freaks out of your business since technology now allows the 'mic' to be remotely switched on. As oppressed minorities have found out the hard way you must also remove the batteries to be sure. Even the iconic novel by George Orwell, 1984 did not go far enough in anticipating what our 'brave new world' would look like. Perhaps we should rethink the convenience of being always connected!
