Spying on its citizens while the affairs of State are mired in secrecy leads not to security but tyranny! When we have different laws for the rulers than for those governed, when attempts to hold the State accountable are easily swatted aside by invoking a 'national security' or 'State secrets' privilege, when rights are stripped from the citizenry even as State power grows exponentially, then tyranny is simply a matter of time - it is as inevitable as the Sun disappearing beneath the horizon in the evening sky!

History's biggest massacres have taken place when the citizens have had their means of self-defense removed by the State after promising to protect them - then ultimately turning its weapons on them! While a trusting populace looks on quietly as the full weight of State power is brought to bear against whistleblowers and truth-seekers - the foundation is laid for any daring to expose official wrongdoing to become a victim of State oppression - in the end they are spectators previewing their own future!

We live during a time when State worship will replace all religions as the predominant belief system! Statism will be widely practiced as the masses repose total trust in their rulers to deliver them from the many perils and economic hardships that will arise in the coming years - laboring under the false belief that they are actually in control of the biblical Wild Beast due to the ability to elect its leaders. As George Washington opined: "Government like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."!

Senator Church’s Prophetic Warning

Senator Frank Church – who chaired the famous “Church Committee” into the unlawful FBI Cointel program, and who chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee – said in 1975:

“Th[e National Security Agency's]  capability at any time could be turned around on the American people, and no American would have any privacy left, such is the capability to monitor everything: telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn’t matter. There would be no place to hide.  [If a dictator ever took over, the N.S.A.] could enable it to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back.“

Now, the NSA is building a $2 billion dollar facility in Utah which will use the world’s most powerful supercomputer to monitor virtually all phone calls, emails, internet usage, purchases and rentals, break all encryption, and then store everyone’s data permanently.
The former head of the program for the NSA recently held his thumb and forefinger close together, and said:

We are, like, that far from a turnkey totalitarian state

So Senator Church’s warning was prophetic.
